Owl Moon

For this Five in a Row book, we used the FIAR manual as well as the Magnificent Moon Download-N-Go! You can read more about our experience with the DNG after we finish our moon studies. We enjoyed learning a lot about owls as well as the moon! I will go more into our description of our moon studies in the DNG post that is coming.

Fun Crafts & Projects

We made this fun owl from Almost Unschoolers (it was mostly for Caleb, but of course the girls wanted to make one, too! these are the owls pictures at the top of this post.)

Owl craft ideas from Crafty Crow

We used a synthetic owl pellet that I found at Hobby Lobby! I was excited to not have to order online. I realize that it being synthetic might take the fun out of it for some of you, but not me. ha! I had read the info in the package and knew what bones we would find, but I didn't tell the kids so that there would still be an element of surprise for them. :)

For copywork, we used the saying (or ancient proverb) that goes like this:

A wise old owl sat in an oak.
The more he saw the less he spoke.
The less he spoke the more he heard.
Why can't we all be like that wise old bird?

Thank you for all the great resources on your blog! We're looking into FIAR for next year and I'm bookmarking your blog to see some of your ideas. Did you ever use the character supplement?
